about
This is a co-write with Wib Schneider and Chris Shaw. It was born from a conversation that Wib and I had about why black lives matter. He wrote the music, and the lyrics came naturally from that conversation. Chris Shaw helped to finish the track by adding dope background lyrics and vocals. Wib Schneider on guitar, Martin Brown on bass, and Andre Scott on drums. Recorded and mixed by Keith Hanlon at Musicol studio.
lyrics
There's music in these sidewalks
History in these streets
The funny way that I walk
Riding hidden beats
Underneath the shadows
Just beyond the light
There runs a living water
But you may miss the shine
This story cannot be erased
Though they try it every day
Centuries and seconds come and then they go
It's important now for you to know
I am here
I am here
It's exotic, it's my nature
(Yeah) sassy is ok for you
Braided hair of mother culture (you praise)
But lighter shades are still your suit
Tables turning make no difference
What will be will be
Like it or not, we will still remain
They may not say, but they'll see
This beauty cannot be erased
Though they try it every day
Centuries and seconds come and then they go
It's important now for you to know
I am here
I am here
(extremely dope guitar solo, then guitar/drum duo)
This glory cannot be erased
Though they try it every day
Centuries and seconds come and then they go
It's important now for you to know
I am here
I am here
